In a recent development, the South Andaman District Police have taken action against a travel agent accused of cheating tourists. Four cases have been registered against Satyaki Maiti, the owner of Scintillating Andamans, for fraudulent activities spanning the years 2023 and 2024.

The complaints, lodged by multiple individuals, allege that Maiti, under the guise of a legitimate travel agent, enticed tourists with enticing tour packages. He reportedly advertised fake tour details on his website and through various social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. Tourists were lured in with promises of unbeatable prices and exceptional services during their visit to the Andaman Islands.

However, upon arrival, tourists encountered numerous issues, including problems with accommodation bookings and transportation services. Despite assurances of satisfactory arrangements, the reality fell short of expectations, leaving visitors disappointed and financially compromised.

The accused, not deterred by legal repercussions, allegedly resorted to creating another website named “Happy Journey Andaman,” perpetuating the scam further. The total amount cheated from victims across the four cases is estimated to be approximately Rs. 5,36,000/-.

Authorities have swiftly responded to the complaints, leading to the arrest of Satyaki Maiti, who is currently in judicial custody. Investigations into all four cases are underway, with authorities urging the public to come forward with any relevant information regarding illegal activities or other crimes.

Concerned citizens are encouraged to report such incidents to the police through various channels, including the emergency hotline at 112, as well as specific contact numbers provided by the South Andaman District Police. Informants can rest assured that their identities will remain confidential.
