As the nation gears up for the impending Lok Sabha General Election 2024, the North and Middle Andaman District Police have embarked on comprehensive preparations to ensure a smooth, secure, and fair electoral process. With meticulous planning and efficient execution of security measures, the police force is leaving no stone unturned to uphold the integrity of the democratic exercise.

A dedicated Election cell has been established within the North and Middle Andaman District Police to spearhead the preparations and coordinate with the District Administration. Under the leadership of Superintendent of Police N&MA and the Sub-Divisional Police Officers of Rangat and Diglipur, alongside all Station House Officers, regular visits to polling stations are being conducted. Special attention is being paid to Critical, Isolated, and Sensitive polling stations to ensure the availability of basic amenities and to assess security arrangements meticulously. Any deficiencies identified are promptly addressed in collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure swift resolution.

To bolster security measures, Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel have been deployed across all Police Stations within the N&MA district. Flag March and Area Domination exercises are being carried out in conjunction with CAPF personnel to acquaint them with localities and imbibe an understanding of the local culture. Additionally, CAPF personnel are engaged in patrolling and picketing duties to enhance surveillance and deterrence.

A stringent vigil is being maintained over potential troublemakers, habitual offenders, bootleggers, and anti-social elements. The public is being sensitized to refrain from engaging with individuals spreading rumours, particularly on social media platforms. Intelligence agencies are on high alert to promptly share any information that may pose a threat to the integrity of the electoral process. Furthermore, all privately licensed arms have been deposited at the respective Police Stations’ armoires to mitigate any security risks.

The proactive measures undertaken have yielded tangible results, with the Police seizing 110 bottles of IMFL and 12 kilograms of Handia. Additionally, 12 individuals have been booked under preventive action thus far. Flying Squads, Static Surveillance Teams, and Naakas have been deployed strategically to maintain law and order across the district.

The North and Middle Andaman District Police reiterate their commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process. They call upon all stakeholders to cooperate actively in preserving peace and order during this critical juncture in the nation’s democratic journey.
