As the nation gears up for the upcoming general elections, ensuring the integrity of the electoral process remains paramount. The South Andaman District Police, recognising the significance of this democratic exercise, is leaving no stone unturned to facilitate a smooth and fair electoral process.
Law enforcement agencies, particularly the police force, are pivotal in upholding the sanctity of elections by maintaining law and order. In this regard, the South Andaman District is taking proactive measures to create an environment conducive to peaceful voting.
All members of the public are strongly encouraged to exercise their democratic right by casting their votes. However, it’s essential for voters to adhere to certain guidelines to ensure the efficiency and fairness of the polling process.
Inside the polling stations, strict regulations will be enforced to maintain order. Prohibited items include phones, communication devices, smoking, firearms, cameras, food, and water. These measures are aimed at preserving the sanctity and neutrality of the polling environment.
Moreover, voters must present valid identification documents to verify their identity before casting their votes. Accepted forms of identification include the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) and a range of government-issued documents such as Aadhaar Card, MNREGA Job Card, Passbooks with photograph issued by Bank/Post Office, Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the Ministry of Labour scheme, Driving License, PAN Card, Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR, Indian Passport, Pension document with photograph, Service Identity Cards with Photograph issued to employees by Central /State Govt./ PSUs/Public Limited Companies, Official Identity Cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs, and Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
Furthermore, the public is encouraged to report any instances of anti-social activities that may disrupt the electoral process. Information can be shared with the police through various channels, including emergency hotlines at 100, 112, 1077, and 03192-238881. The anonymity of informants will be strictly preserved.
By adhering to these guidelines and actively participating in the electoral process, citizens can contribute to the democratic fabric of the nation.
