79 Kg Ganja, 77 Kg Methamphetamine, 29 Cannabis Plants, 7 Grams Charas, 22 Bottles of Codeine-based Syrup, and 255 tablets of Nitrazepam & Alprazolam Destroyed by A & N Police

In compliance with the directives of the Honourable Supreme Court of India in Mohanlal-Vs-Union of India and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Rules (Seizure, Storage, Sampling, and Disposal), 2022, the Andaman and Nicobar Police have conducted a thorough disposal of confiscated narcotics. Under the meticulous supervision of the UT Level Drug Disposal Committee, chaired by Ms. Varsha Sharma (IPS), DIGP (L&O), a total of 102 case properties from various police stations underwent disposal operations from April 16th to April 22nd, 2024, in three phases.

The committee, comprising eminent members such as Mr. Rajeev Ranjan (IPS), SP (CID), Mr. Mohd. Irshad Haider (IPS), SP(HQ), and Mr. Kumar Abhishek, DySP (CID), collaborated with officials from the A&N Pollution Control Board, Envirocheck (for emission measurement), and GB Pant Hospital. The operations were conducted in accordance with legal and procedural standards, ensuring transparency and adherence to regulatory requirements.

During the disposal process, a staggering amount of contraband substances were destroyed. The inventory included 79 kilograms of Ganja, 77 kilograms of Methamphetamine, 29 Cannabis Plants, 7 grams of Charas, 22 bottles of Codeine-based syrup, and 255 tablets of Nitrazepam & Alprazolam. The destruction was carried out meticulously using the incinerator at GB Pant Hospital.

The entire operation was documented via video recording, ensuring accountability and transparency in the process. This concerted effort by the Andaman and Nicobar Police underscores their unwavering commitment to combatting drug abuse in the region. By eradicating such significant quantities of narcotics, the police aim to foster a safer and drug-free community for residents of the islands.
