The Armed Police Unit proudly announced the triumphant conclusion of its groundbreaking De-addiction and Rehabilitation Camp, tailored exclusively for police personnel. Held on April 30, 2024, at Police Lines, this pioneering initiative aimed to provide comprehensive support and recovery services to officers grappling with addiction.
Acknowledging the unique challenges faced by law enforcement professionals, the camp provided a confidential and nurturing environment where officers could seek professional assistance and commence their journey toward recovery. The program encompassed lectures by medical experts, individual counselling sessions, group therapy, and workshops focusing on coping mechanisms and stress management.
Ms. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, Superintendent of Police (APU), underscored the significance of the initiative, stating, “We must address the health challenges within our force with the same urgency and care that we respond to public emergencies. Supporting our officers through their recovery not only aids their personal well-being but also enhances the overall effectiveness and integrity of our police force.”
During the event, Dr. Pooja Govind, Senior Resident, Department of Psychiatry, GB Pant Hospital, ANIIMS, Ms. Hemlatha, Psychologist, and Ms. Shabnam, Social Worker, delivered enlightening talks on mental health, the effects of alcohol and psychotropic substances on health, and their impact on the societal and professional lives of police personnel.
The response from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the life-changing support and understanding they received. This annual camp is part of the department’s broader Health and Wellness Initiative aimed at addressing various challenges that affect law enforcement officers today.
Under the esteemed guidance of Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivatsava, DGP, ANI, and the supervision of Ms. Sindhu Pillai A, IPS, IGP, ANI, and Ms. Monika Bharadwaj, DIGP(APU), the event underscores the A&N Police’s unwavering commitment to promoting health initiatives and ensuring the well-being of our police personnel.
