In a bid to address the persistent power woes plaguing Diglipur in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Member of Parliament Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has fervently appealed to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor for installation of 5 MW Electric Power Capacity DG Set at Sitanagar Power House in Diglipur.
In a formal letter penned to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Mr. Sharma underscored the urgent need for this infrastructural upgrade. The Kalpong Hydro Electric Power Project, serving as the lifeline for electricity supply in the region, grapples with formidable challenges during the dry season (February to July), marked by diminished water levels. Consequently, the area endures a crippling scarcity of electricity, resulting in frequent power disruptions and the inadvertent damage of electronic appliances.
Mr. Sharma emphasised that the installation of a 5 MW capacity DG set at the Diglipur Power House is imperative to safeguard the residents’ access to reliable and uninterrupted electricity throughout the year, particularly during lean water periods at the Kalpong Hydro Electric Power Project.
‘This initiative holds paramount significance in ensuring sustained electricity provision for the denizens of Diglipur, shielding them from the adverse repercussions of fluctuating water levels at the Kalpong Hydro Electric Power Project,’ affirmed the Member of Parliament.
Furthermore, Mr. Sharma elucidated that the deployment of this DG set will obviate the necessity to procure electricity from the Rangat Zone, thereby bolstering self-sufficiency in power supply and catalyzing the holistic advancement and prosperity of the Diglipur region. The augmentation of electricity infrastructure, he emphasised, will invigorate economic activities, elevate living standards, and cultivate an environment conducive to multifaceted growth and progress.
