The persistent water scarcity crisis gripping Kadamtala and surrounding regions in Middle Andaman has prompted a call to action from the Member of Parliament for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma. In a formal appeal directed to the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Sharma has advocated for the immediate construction of a new dam over Katla Nallah, citing it as a crucial step towards resolving the pressing water woes in the area.
Expressing deep concern over the dire situation, Sharma highlighted the severe impact of water scarcity on numerous communities in Kadamtala and Uttara. With reports indicating that water is only being supplied once a week to these regions, the plight of residents has escalated, burdening them with undue hardships.
In his communication with the Chief Secretary, Sharma underscored the inadequacy of the existing water infrastructure, particularly the two dams situated in the Kadamtala Number 03 area. He emphasized that these facilities are not being sufficiently maintained to cater to the escalating water demands of the burgeoning population. Consequently, the current infrastructure is failing to meet the growing needs of the populace, exacerbating the water crisis.
In response to these challenges, Sharma has called for the construction of a new dam in the Katla Nallah area of Middle Andaman. Highlighting the strategic significance of this proposed location, he asserted that it holds immense potential to serve as a viable solution to the prevailing water crisis plaguing the entire region.
