In a relentless effort to combat the scourge of illicit drugs, the police force of N&M Andaman District, particularly the Kalighat Police Station, has once again demonstrated its unwavering resolve by launching a crackdown on drug peddlers.
Acting on a credible tip-off, a raiding team led by Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar Baghel, the Station House Officer (SHO) of PS Kalighat, sprang into action. The intelligence suggested that two individuals were transporting a significant quantity of illicit ganja on a motorcycle bearing registration number AN01-P-9503 towards the Kalighat area.
Swiftly responding to the intelligence, the raiding team, comprising Head Constable (Driver) N Rupesh Kumar, and Police Constables Subrata Biswas, Vijay Kumar, and Suresh Soreng, along with two independent witnesses, positioned themselves at Kalara junction under the supervision of Mr. Brij Mohan Meena, DANIPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Diglipur.
Their vigilance paid off when they spotted the suspected motorcycle with two riders approaching Kalara Junction. Without hesitation, the raiding team intercepted the vehicle and conducted a thorough search, leading to the discovery of 530 grams of illicit ganja in the possession of Kamal Das and Rahul Das.
Kamal Das, aged 29, hailing from Madhupur, and Rahul Das, aged 21, residing in Aerial Bay, confessed to their involvement in the illegal activity during interrogation. Subsequently, both accused individuals were served notices under Section 41(A) of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.PC), and a case was registered at PS Kalighat under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Brij Mohan Meena, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur, and the overall direction and supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
