In preparation for the Counting of Votes polled in General Election 2024, the first round of training was conducted for Counting Supervisors, Micro Observers, Counting Assistants, and Counting Staff assigned to assist the Returning Officer of the A & N Islands Parliamentary Constituency. The training took place at the DBRAIT auditorium on May 11, 2024, setting the stage for the crucial task of counting votes scheduled for June 4, 2024, at the JNRM Counting Centre.
Mr. Som Naidu, DANICS Retd., served as the Resource Person for the training session. In his address to the trainees, he emphasised the significance of their roles and responsibilities during the counting process. Stressing the importance of thorough training, Naidu urged all personnel involved to take their duties seriously to ensure a smooth counting process on June 4.
Dr. A. Abraham provided insights into the counting procedures through a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation. Counting Supervisors and Assistants were briefed on the step-by-step process to be followed. He informed that the counting of Postal Ballots will be taken up first followed by votes cast through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
Under the guidance of Mr. M. Papa Rao and a team of Master Trainers, the counting personnel received training in handling polled EVMs, especially the Control Unit and VVPAT machines. A demonstration of the vote counting process was conducted, accompanied by detailed presentations on the subject matter.
The training session also included practical exercises, allowing trainees to familiarize themselves with the counting procedures. It was announced that the next round of training for counting personnel is scheduled to take place at the same venue on May 21, 2024, further ensuring their preparedness for the upcoming electoral event.
