Campbell Bay, 31 Mar 2021

Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers of Katchal Island who were protesting for their resettlement to a non-tribal area since the last 134 days, have withdrawn their protests after assurance from Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

On 30th of March 2021 a meeting was called by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration on the issues of the Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers of Katchal Island. The meeting was fruitful and Andaman and Nicobar Administration showed positive signs towards fulfilling the demands of Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers.

Sri Lankan Tamil settlers also discussed their issues with Ajoy Bairagi who asked them to withdraw their protests since the A & N Administration and the Central Govt. is seriously trying to find solution to their problems.

After the meeting with Ajoy Bairagi, Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers of Katchal Island decided to withdraw their protests completely. The members of the community were also on relay hunger strike since the last 129 days.
