The Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Andaman and Nicobar Islands, recently organized a distribution camp aimed at providing essential assistive devices free of cost. This initiative was part of the Assistance to Persons with Disabilities for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances (ADIP) scheme, and the event was held at the CRC A&N Islands premises in Brookshabad.
The camp was primarily focused on enhancing accessibility and empowering Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) by distributing digital programmable hearing aids and Teaching Learning Materials Kits. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to improve the quality of life and inclusivity for individuals with disabilities across the region.
Mr. L. Kumar, IAS, Secretary of Social Welfare for the A&N Administration, graced the event as the chief guest. His presence highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting welfare initiatives that promote the integration of PWDs into mainstream society. The gathering was welcomed by Ms. Sumithamol, Director of CRC A&N Islands.
A key highlight of the event was the distribution of digital programmable hearing aids for individuals with hearing impairments and Teaching Learning Materials Kits for those with intellectual disabilities. Mr. Harimathi, a Senior Audiologist from the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities in Chennai, played a pivotal role. He meticulously programmed and fitted the hearing aids for each beneficiary, ensuring that the support was tailored to meet their specific auditory needs.
Approximately 22 beneficiaries from various backgrounds and regions of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands benefited from the distribution camp. Each recipient received personalized attention and care, reflecting CRC A&N Islands’ dedication to fostering inclusivity and accessibility for all.
