National Lok Adalat Scheduled on 14th September in Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Andaman & Nicobar State Legal Services Authority is set to host the National Lok Adalat on September 14, 2024, across multiple locations in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. This event, a crucial initiative to expedite the resolution of disputes, will be held at the District Court Complex in Port Blair, the Sub-Divisional Court Complex in Mayabunder, and the Circuit Court in Diglipur.

The National Lok Adalat is designed to facilitate the swift, cost-effective, and amicable settlement of a broad spectrum of disputes. Cases both pending in various courts and at the pre-litigation stage will be addressed, with a focus on reaching mutually agreeable resolutions. This initiative not only aims to reduce the backlog in the courts but also to ensure that justice is delivered in a timely manner.

Categories of Disputes to be Addressed:

-Negotiable Instruments Act, Section 138: Quick resolution of cheque bounce cases through mutual agreement.

– Money Recovery Cases: Expedient settlement of financial dues.

-Labour Disputes: Resolution of employment and workers’ rights-related disputes.

-Electricity and Water Bill Disputes (excluding non-compoundable matters): Fair settlement of billing disputes.

-Maintenance Cases: Ensuring timely and fair maintenance for dependents.

-Civil Disputes: Peaceful resolution of civil issues, including property and contract disputes.

-Disputes under the Consumer Protection Act: Efficient handling of consumer grievances.

Residents with disputes in these categories, whether at the pre-litigation or post-litigation stage, are encouraged to participate in the Lok Adalat. It offers a valuable opportunity to resolve conflicts amicably, thus avoiding the prolonged process of conventional litigation.

To have a case considered in the National Lok Adalat, interested parties should submit their disputes in writing to the Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Port Blair, by September 8, 2024. Early submission will ensure that the cases are processed and ready for hearing on September 14, 2024.
