In a significant crackdown on illegal wildlife activities, the vigilant staff of PS Ograbraj, while conducting routine traffic checks, intercepted a vehicle carrying a substantial amount of venison in the Collinpur area.
The incident occurred on August 22, when ASI R.S. Yadav, in charge of Outpost Tirur under PS Ograbraj, along with Head Constable U.K. Karmakar, stopped a suspicious vehicle bearing registration number AN01-R-7481. The car, coming from Collinpur village, was subjected to a thorough search. During the inspection, two large gunny bags containing approximately 29.1 kilograms of deer meat (venison) were discovered.
The driver, identified as Jeet Kumar Biswas, a 20-year-old private driver from Manpur, was immediately apprehended. Biswas was found in possession of the illegal venison, which is a protected wildlife asset under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. The seized venison, along with the vehicle involved, was handed over to the forest officials of Tushnabad Range for further legal action, following all procedural formalities.
This swift action underscores the dedication and vigilance of the police team in safeguarding wildlife while performing their duties. The operation was conducted under the leadership of SI Devanand Pathak, SHO of PS Ograbraj, with supervision by SDPO Bambooflat Mr. Brij Mohan Meena, DANIPS, and overall command of Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.
The police have urged the general public to report any anti-social activities in their localities by contacting the police on 236641, 224934, or 112. The identity of informants will be kept confidential.
This operation not only reflects the commitment of the law enforcement agencies to protecting wildlife but also serves as a reminder of the strict enforcement of wildlife protection laws in the region.
