In a significant operation, the police team of PS Diglipur, led by Inspector Vijay Kumar, SHO PS Diglipur, successfully busted illegal drug activities in the Subashgram area on September 19, 2024, recovering a substantial quantity of Ganja.
Acting on specific intelligence, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Mohd. Rafique raided a site near the residence of a local, Ravi Mazumder. During the operation, officers discovered 1.130 kg of Ganja hidden within the tin roof of a temporary shed, which was being used as a pigsty. Ravi Mazumder was immediately taken into custody after following all legal procedures, and a case was registered against him under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act at PS Diglipur. The investigation is ongoing.
Subsequent inquiries revealed that the Ganja had been supplied to Ravi Mazumder by his son, Suraj Mazumder, also known as Gullu. Based on reliable information, the police learned that Suraj was hiding near the Radha Govind Temple in Subashgram and was preparing to negotiate a deal with drug users. On September 23, 2024, a special police team swiftly moved into action, arresting Suraj Mazumder and recovering 1.080 kg of Ganja from his possession.
Suraj Mazumder, 23, a resident of Subashgram, Diglipur, was promptly arrested and later sent to judicial custody.
Both operations were conducted under the guidance of Mr. Ankesh Yadav, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur, and under the overall supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, SP (D), North & Middle Andaman. The successful crackdown is a reflection of the local police’s ongoing commitment to curb drug-related offences in the region.
