The Chief Secretary of the A&N Administration, Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, chaired a comprehensive review meeting on 14th October 2024, to address long-pending issues related to boat surveys, registrations, and revalidations. Key stakeholders, including the Port Management Board (PMB) and the District Administration, participated in the meeting, which aimed at accelerating approvals and enhancing processes to support the maritime and tourism sectors in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
During the discussion, it was agreed that all pending approvals related to boat operations will be expedited, with a firm deadline set for October 31, 2024, to ensure timely clearance. This decision is expected to bring significant relief to boat owners and operators who have been awaiting approvals, thereby improving operational efficiency across the Islands.
Another crucial issue discussed was the renewal of Certificates of Competency (COC) and GP ratings for maritime personnel. Recognising the importance of skilled manpower in the region’s thriving tourism industry, the Chief Secretary directed the PMB to simplify and fast-track the renewal process. After careful examination, the streamlined process is expected to ensure an adequate supply of qualified personnel for boat operators, supporting tourism and economic activity in the region.
The Chief Secretary also emphasized the need for close coordination between the PMB, District Administration, and other stakeholders to ensure the effective and timely resolution of these issues.
The Andaman & Nicobar Administration remains committed to supporting the maritime industry and promoting tourism as part of its broader development agenda, said a Press Release.
