In an effort to combat the growing menace of substance abuse, the Directorate of Social Welfare organized an impactful awareness program on the “Ill Effects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse” at the Island Auto Association Stand in Dollygunj. The event, held under the banner of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, aimed to educate the public about the severe consequences of addiction on individuals, families, and society.
Ms. Anchamma, Project Assistant at the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), delivered an informative session, shedding light on the far-reaching impact of substance abuse. She emphasized the Government’s unwavering commitment to a drug-free India, highlighting the crucial role of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in this endeavour.
Dr. M.K. Mahato, an expert in substance abuse and mental health from the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), discussed the profound physical, mental, and emotional toll that addiction takes on individuals. He engaged the participants in meaningful discussions, warning them of the dangers of substance abuse while advocating for the transformative power of collective efforts in tackling the issue.
Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director of Social Welfare, reinforced the importance of public education and support in addressing addiction. “This program is dedicated to raising awareness and providing crucial support to those affected. By working together, we can safeguard future generations from the growing threat of substance abuse and protect the well-being of our society,” he stated.
The awareness program concluded with a call for collective action, urging the community to actively participate in the fight against drug abuse and support initiatives that aim to create a healthier, addiction-free society.
