In a historic milestone for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Air Asia inaugurated the first international flight connecting Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair) to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on November 16, 2024. This momentous event marks a significant leap for the islands’ tourism industry and is a source of immense pride for the islanders.
The Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO), led by its President, Mr. M. Vinod, extended heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and the Ministry of Civil Aviation for turning the long-cherished dream of international air connectivity into a reality.
Mr. Vinod also expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, the Airports Authority of India, Air Asia, and all tourism stakeholders who played pivotal roles in achieving this milestone.
“The launch of this international service enhances the connectivity of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, making international destinations more accessible for both islanders and tourists,” said Mr. Vinod. He emphasized that the new route would boost tourism and open avenues for business opportunities, further solidifying the islands’ position as a key regional hub.
Calling the development a game-changer for the emerald islands, Mr. Vinod urged all tourism stakeholders and islanders to unite and ensure the success of this initiative, which promises to bring transformative growth to the region.
The inauguration of the Sri Vijaya Puram-Kuala Lumpur route is expected to strengthen ties between the islands and Southeast Asia, paving the way for a new era of connectivity and prosperity.
