In a landmark achievement, the Andaman & Nicobar Police has earned global recognition, with three of its elite units—South Andaman District Police, Police Marine Force (PMF), and the India Reserve Battalion (IRBn)—receiving the prestigious World Book of Records (WBR), London certification. This honour highlights their unwavering commitment to public safety and exceptional service in law enforcement.
The IRBn has made history as the first battalion in the country to receive the ISO 9001:2015 certification, recognising its stellar performance in securing critical installations, conducting anti-poaching operations, and upholding law enforcement standards across the islands.
The South Andaman District Police have also set a new benchmark, with all nine of its police stations, as well as the offices of three Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) and the District Superintendent of Police, receiving the ISO 9001:2015 certification. This achievement reflects the unit’s dedication to providing citizen-focused, high-quality policing services.
Adding another feather to their cap, the Police Marine Force (PMF) has introduced India’s first Mobile Forensic Boat, equipped with 14 basic crime scene investigation kits. This state-of-the-art facility enhances the PMF’s ability to investigate crimes in remote island areas, thereby strengthening maritime security and law enforcement capabilities.
The certification ceremony took place at the Conference Hall of the Police Headquarters in Sri Vijaya Puram, where Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, presented the World Book of Records certificates to the heads of these units. The event was attended by several distinguished officials, including Mr. Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, DGP of A&N Islands, Ms. Sindhu Pillai A, IPS, IGP, and other senior officers, along with Mr. Santosh Shukla, CEO of World Book of Records, and Dr. Rajeev Srivastav.
In his address, Mr. Keshav Chandra lauded the Andaman & Nicobar Police for their exceptional dedication, professionalism, and service to the public, stating that this recognition not only brings global attention to the islands but also serves as a proud moment for both the police force and the people of the Islands.
Mr. H.S. Dhaliwal, IPS, DGP, also praised the units for their tireless efforts and innovation, stating, “This achievement is a reflection of our continuous commitment to excellence and serving the people with the highest standards of professionalism.” He extended special congratulations to Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, SP (District), South Andaman, and Ms. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, SP (PMF)/Commandant, India Reserve Battalion, whose leadership has been instrumental in achieving this prestigious recognition.
The World Book of Records certifications stand as a testament to the Andaman & Nicobar Police’s unwavering commitment to integrity, professionalism, and public service. These accolades inspire the force to continue its mission of safeguarding the community while fostering trust and collaboration with the public. The ceremony concluded with a celebration of the collective efforts of the entire police force in reaching this historic milestone.
