The Directorate of Industries, in collaboration with its Departmental Training Centres across various islands, has successfully concluded a one-year Skill Development Training Program for the 2023-2024 session. A total of 151 candidates received training in diverse trades, including Carpentry, General Engineering, Cane & Bamboo Handicrafts, Coir Products, and Tailoring & Garment Making.
The initiative aimed to empower participants by providing them with essential skills to create a wide array of products such as wooden artifacts, fabric works, readymade garments, and welding and fabrication items. By equipping trainees with these abilities, the program sought to open avenues for self-employment and sustainable livelihoods.
The training program at the Sri Vijaya Puram Departmental Center concluded on November 30, 2024. A valedictory and awareness program was organised on December 7 to mark the occasion. The event was attended by prominent officials, including Mr. Rakesh Das, Director of Industries, and Mr. Ajit Anand, Deputy Director of Industries, alongside other departmental staff and officials.
During the event, trainees showcased their handcrafted products, which garnered widespread appreciation from visitors and officials alike. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Das lauded the dedication and creativity of both trainers and trainees. He encouraged participants to leverage their newfound skills to improve their livelihoods and explore online marketing opportunities to reach a broader audience.
This training program underscores the Directorate’s commitment to fostering skill development and entrepreneurship among unemployed youth in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. By nurturing talent and promoting self-reliance, the initiative contributes to the region’s economic growth and the creation of sustainable employment opportunities.
