Sports Authority of India (SAI) STC in Car Nicobar organized the “Fit India Cyclothon Joyride,” an exhilarating event held as part of the nationwide Fit India Movement. Launched in 2019, the initiative by the Government of India encourages citizens to prioritise physical fitness and lead healthier lifestyles.

The cyclothon covered a scenic 15-kilometre route, beginning and ending at the SAI STC Centre. Participants rode through five villages, including Tamaloo and Kinyuka, with notable stops such as the residence of Ms. Solomie Allen, a former national rowing athlete, and landmarks like the Tsunami Memorial and ITI Boys Hostel. The event blended physical activity with an appreciation for Car Nicobar’s lush greenery and coastal beauty.

The event kicked off at 6:30 a.m. with a flag-off ceremony by Mr. Ahmed Ali, Sports Secretary of Nicobar Games & Sports Association. National weightlifting athlete Ms. Alaaska Aleena led the enthusiastic group of 34 participants, which included fitness enthusiasts from various age groups.

The cyclothon successfully highlighted the health benefits of cycling, such as improved cardiovascular health, muscle strength, and mental well-being, while promoting an eco-friendly mode of transportation. Organisers emphasised how regular physical activities like cycling can reduce the risk of chronic diseases and foster healthier communities.

The event also served as a reminder of the power of community fitness initiatives to inspire lasting lifestyle changes. Participants left with a renewed commitment to integrating fitness into their daily routines, making the “Fit India Cyclothon Joyride” a memorable milestone in Car Nicobar’s health and wellness journey.
