Sumanta Biswas, the CPI(M)-supported candidate, has been elected as the Panchayat Samiti Member from the Paschimsagar constituency in a closely watched bye-election held on January 12. The results, declared today, revealed a decisive victory for Biswas, who defeated the BJP candidate by a margin of 297 votes.
According to the official count, Sumanta Biswas secured 547 votes, while his BJP rival received 250 votes. The bye-election was conducted in the Paschimsagar Gram Panchayat under Diglipur Tehsil in North Andaman.
The CPI(M) Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee has congratulated the residents of Paschimsagar for their support and expressed satisfaction with the outcome. In a statement, the committee described the result as a reflection of growing public dissatisfaction with the policies of the BJP-led central government and its administration in the islands.
The victory highlights the changing political dynamics in the region, with local issues and governance taking center stage in voter preferences. (Story Based on a PR by CPI(M).
