The Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), in collaboration with multiple agencies, conducted a mock drill simulating an earthquake and fire incident to test preparedness and response mechanisms. The exercise was organized under the direction of the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, who has mandated quarterly mock drills for all departments.
The mock drill was carried out in coordination with the District Administration (South Andaman), Disaster Management, A&N Police, Health Department, Fire Services, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD). Real-time fire simulation scenarios were created to assess the readiness of the department and the involved stakeholders.
Upon receiving information about the simulated earthquake and fire, the response teams at AH&VS activated their emergency protocols and informed the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), Fire Control Room, and Health Control Room.
Teams from A&N Police, Fire Services, NDRF, District Administration, Health Department, APWD, and Disaster Management arrived at the site promptly with necessary resources. The situation was tackled through a coordinated response, ensuring effective management of the mock emergency.
Following the drill, a debriefing session was held where observers shared their findings and pointed out gaps in the response process. Officers from various resource departments were advised to regularly review their preparedness and provide basic safety training to their teams to handle real-life emergencies effectively.
The mock drill served as a crucial exercise in enhancing disaster preparedness and ensuring a swift and coordinated response to potential emergencies in the future.
