Police Arrests Man with Cannabis in Little Andaman

Hutbay Police arrested a 28-year-old man from Netaji Nagar for possessing cannabis on February 10, 2025. The arrest followed a raid led by Station House Officer (SHO) of Hut Bay Police Station, SI G. Mohan Rao, based on a tip-off about the accused’s illegal activities.

According to the FIR, SI G. Mohan Rao received credible information about a man possessing cannabis in the Tsunami Shelter area of Netaji Nagar. The information was immediately conveyed to Mr. Firoz Alam, DANIPS, SDPO (Swaraj Dweep), who directed the formation of a raiding team. The team included SI G. Mohan Rao (SHO, Hut Bay), ASI B. Krishna Rao, HC M. Vinod Kumar, PC Kuldeep Kumar, PC Sudersana Rao, PC Shivli Halder, PC Saroj Tete, and HC P. Thanga Durai. The team also involved Mr. Belthazer, BDO of Little Andaman, as the Gazetted Officer for the raid.

The team left for Netaji Nagar equipped with a drug detection kit and an electronic weighing machine. Upon reaching the spot, they apprised two local residents of the situation and requested them to act as independent witnesses during the search.

The team stopped the suspect, who was walking towards the main road of Netaji Nagar. After being informed about his legal rights, the accused consented to a personal search. The police recovered a packet containing a substance that, upon testing with the drug detection kit, was confirmed to be cannabis (ganja).

The seized contraband weighed 21.15 grams and was sealed in the presence of independent witnesses. 

The accused was arrested for violating Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
