A & N Police is strictly implementing lockdown orders issued by DM South Andaman. Barricades have been setup at different places throughout the district and police is regularly patrolling different areas.

The goal of the lockdown is to reduce the movement of the residents to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the district. A rapid rise in the number of cases were reported from South Andaman District recently and the restriction orders imposed earlier contributed very little in reducing the extent of the spread.

People plying on roads were stopped at different barricades and their movement passes were checked by the police personnels. Those without movement passes were sent back.

The District Administration has given a two hour window to the residents every morning when they can shop for essential supplies from vendors near them.

Senior officers of Andaman and Nicobar Police were also seen monitoring the implementation of the lockdown orders in different areas of South Andaman District.

The only way to stop the spread of the virus in the Islands is to reduce the movement of general public to as little as possible and facilitate more tests and efficiently track and isolate the contacts of confirmed cases.

A & N Police should be lauded for performing their duty with utmost dedication even during the inclement weather.
