IGNOU Holds 38th Convocation at Sri Vijaya Puram Regional Centre

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) held its 38th Convocation on March 5, 2025, at its Regional Centre in Sri Vijaya Puram. The Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar (A&N) Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

In his address, Dr. Kumar congratulated the graduating students and lauded their efforts in successfully completing their respective courses. He emphasized that the convocation ceremony is not just an occasion to receive degree certificates but also an opportunity for students to chart their future career paths. Acknowledging IGNOU’s role in expanding access to quality higher education, he praised the institution’s contribution to providing learning opportunities to diverse segments of society through open and distance education.

Dr. Kumar also commended the IGNOU Regional Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram, for offering over 300 courses, including skill development programs, and extending education to even the most remote areas of the A&N Islands. Highlighting the benefits of distance learning, he urged students to spread awareness among their families and communities about IGNOU’s flexible learning model, which caters to working professionals and individuals with various commitments.

Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, Mr. P. K. Paul, IFS, Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Department of Environment & Forests, A&N Administration, addressed the gathering and congratulated the students on their achievements.

Welcoming the attendees, Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob, Regional Director of IGNOU, presented an overview of the academic activities over the past year. He noted that this was the first time the convocation was held at the Regional Centre’s own premises. A total of 951 students were eligible to receive their degrees and diplomas, out of which 181 were present for the ceremony, accompanied by their parents and guests.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sudarshan Raja, Assistant Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram. The convocation was attended by a large number of dignitaries, students, and their families, marking yet another milestone in IGNOU’s commitment to accessible education.
