A primary school teacher at GPS Mohanpur in North and Middle Andaman district has been booked for allegedly assaulting a nine-year-old student during an examination.
According to the FIR registered at Kalighat Police Station, the incident occurred on March 3, 2025, when the student, a Class 3 student at GPS Mohanpur, was appearing for his Hindi subject final examination. The complaint states that the child had sought clarification regarding a question from an invigilator, who then called the class teacher for assistance. The teacher, instead of addressing the query, allegedly grabbed the student by the collar and struck him multiple times on the back with a steel scale.
The child later informed his mother about the incident in the afternoon. Concerned about the pain and injuries, she immediately took him to the Primary Health Center at Kishorinagar for medical attention.
Following the complaint, the police registered a case under Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, which deal with cruelty against minors.
As per the FIR, the child suffered significant pain and minor injury on his back due to the repeated blows with the steel scale.
