In a major boost to healthcare services in North and Middle Andaman, a new Sub Centre was inaugurated at Wrafter’s Creek, under the jurisdiction of PHC Baratang, on March 6, 2025. The facility, aimed at providing essential medical services to remote areas, was inaugurated by Dr. Anil Agarwal, Secretary (Health) and Mission Director (UTHM), A&N Administration.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Dr. Suja Antony, Director of Health Services; Dr. Siddharaju, Deputy Director (Family Welfare); Mr. Alagarswamy, Zilla Parishad Member; Ms. Sumari Roy, Pradhan; Mr. Sathish, Up-Pradhan, Nilambur Panchayat; Dr. Nadia Rahman, Medical Officer (I/C), PHC Baratang; and Dr. Rahul, GDMO. Their participation underscored the significance of the initiative for the local community.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Anil Agarwal highlighted the pivotal role of Sub Centres in delivering preventive, promotive, and curative healthcare services in rural areas. He urged residents to actively engage with health workers and support the implementation of national health programs for the collective well-being of the community.
The event drew an attendance of over 200 people, reflecting the anticipation and enthusiasm surrounding the new healthcare facility. The Sub Centre is expected to play a transformative role in enhancing healthcare accessibility for the residents of Wrafter’s Creek and neighbouring villages. Authorities have expressed their commitment to further expanding healthcare infrastructure in other remote regions.
Concluding the event, Dr. Nadia Rahman, Medical Officer (I/C), PHC Baratang, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of the Administration and PRI members in making this initiative a reality.
