On the eve of International Women’s Day, Andaman Mahila Mandal, in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra, Sri Vijaya Puram, organized a grand celebration at the Andaman Mahila Mandal premises, highlighting women’s empowerment and contributions to society.
Swami Suddhanand Saraswati of Chinmaya Mission, Sri Vijaya Puram, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his inspiring address, he emphasized the significance of women’s empowerment and lauded the achievements of historical and contemporary figures such as Rani Laxmi Bai, Sunita Williams, and Kalpana Chawla, who have made indelible marks through their courage and dedication.
Mr. Rajeshwar Lall, Assistant Secretary (GA), attended as the Guest of Honour and underscored the importance of education, skill development, and equal opportunities for women. He also distributed mementos to the winners of the sports competitions and rangoli contest held as part of the celebrations.
Former counselor of SVPMC, Ms. Sarsamma Prabhakaran, addressed the gathering, stressing the continuous efforts needed for gender equality and women’s development. Meanwhile, Ms. Bithika Roy, Senior Teacher, highlighted the role of education in empowering women and their contributions to society.
Mr. Gorakhnath Patil, President of Maharashtra Mandal, and Mr. Arvind Kumar Patil, Secretary of Maharashtra Mandal, also shared their thoughts, advocating for increased women’s participation across all spheres of life.
Several executive members of Andaman Mahila Mandal, including Ms.Hema Biswas, Ms. Bithika Roy, Ms. Zeenat Bibi, Ms. Mala Barua, Ms. Shyamala, Ms. Shyama, and Ms. Rajeswari, graced the event with their presence.
As a gesture of appreciation, senior women of the community—Ms. Rukmani Patil, Ms. Sarsamma Prabhakaran, and Ms. Sumitra Patil—were honoured with bouquets and shawls for their invaluable contributions to society.
The event was seamlessly coordinated by Dr. Sunita Patil, ensuring an engaging and smooth flow of activities. Mr. Gopal Ch Biswas from Nehru Yuva Kendra welcomed the gathering and recited a heartfelt poem, Nari Ka Samman, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and respecting women’s contributions. He also briefed the audience on the significance of International Women’s Day and extended a vote of thanks.
