Expressing concern over the slow progress of renovation work on National Highway-4 (NH-4) in North and Middle Andaman, CPI(M) leaders met the Executive Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) on March 5, 2025.
D. Ayyappan, Secretary of the CPI(M) A&N State Organising Committee, along with P. Sathyapal, State Secretariat Member, urged NHIDCL to accelerate the work while the fair weather persists. They emphasized that the region’s rainy season typically begins in May or June, making it crucial to complete pending work before then.
In response, the Executive Director assured the CPI(M) leaders that the entire renovation of NH-4 would be completed by the end of 2025.
Regarding the stalled construction of the bridge at Middle Strait, the NHIDCL official informed the delegation that the contract has been awarded to a new firm. The new contractor is in the process of mobilizing heavy machinery for the project, which is now scheduled for completion by March 2026.
The CPI(M) leaders stressed the importance of timely completion of these key infrastructure projects for the convenience of residents and travellers in North and Middle Andaman.
