Rangat Zonal Agriculture Office Marks Earth Day with Natural Farming Awareness Drive at Sundergarh

In observance of International Mother Earth Day 2025, themed “Our Power, Our Planet,” the Zonal Agriculture Office, Rangat organized an awareness programme on Natural Farming for villages under the Sundergarh Gram Panchayat. The event took place at the Community Hall, Adazig.

The programme aimed to promote environmentally sustainable agricultural practices among local farmers and was attended by key local representatives and community members.

The event was inaugurated by Ms. Sarla Krishnan, Pradhan of Sundergarh, who served as the chief guest. She was joined by Mr. Vijay Mondal, Up-Pramukh of Adazig; representatives from the Block Development Office and AH & VS Department; and a large number of farmer participants.

Ms. Shirly Thomas, Joint Director (Agriculture)/Assistant Director (Agriculture), Rangat, welcomed the gathering and outlined the objectives of the programme, stressing the urgency of addressing environmental challenges through sustainable farming methods.

In her address, Ms. Krishnan underlined the importance of such awareness programmes in promoting the sustainable development of both human well-being and environmental health. Echoing her sentiments, guest of honour Mr. Mondal stated, “Our planet is not just a resource but a living entity that sustains all life. Protecting it is essential for our well-being and that of future generations.”

Mr. Kanhaya Lal Prasad, Agriculture Officer, Rangat, provided a detailed explanation of the core principles of Natural Farming. Representatives from the Block Development Office highlighted the broader scope and importance of the movement and also spoke on the adverse impacts of plastic on the environment. Officials from the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department also addressed the gathering.

The programme concluded with a call for collective responsibility and grassroots efforts to safeguard the environment through eco-friendly agricultural practices.
