A serious security breach occurred at a key naval establishment in South Andaman when a civilian trespassed into a restricted defence zone near Old Dweep Vihar, Sri Vijaya Puram. The individual was apprehended by naval personnel and later handed over to local police authorities for further investigation.
The incident took place on the evening of May 11, around 5:30 PM, when the suspect, reportedly involved in a scuffle near Junglighat, jumped into the water and swam across to a sensitive defence installation. On being spotted by a patrolling guard at Old Dweep Vihar, the intruder was quickly intercepted by the on-duty security team of INS Jarawa.
According to official reports, the individual failed to produce any identification at the time of apprehension. Preliminary inquiries indicated that the person worked on a boat operating out of Junglighat.
A formal complaint was lodged by a senior naval officer, stressing the grave implications of unauthorized access to a defence installation. The complaint highlighted that, in the current security environment, such incidents must be treated with utmost seriousness. The matter was subsequently taken up by the Chatham Police Station, and an FIR was registered under Section 329(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, pertaining to criminal trespassing.
