In a significant step toward ensuring faster and more efficient delivery of services to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), the Directorate of Social Welfare, in coordination with the Directorate of Health Services and the Composite Regional Centre (CRC), has announced a series of special medical camps to be conducted across the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The primary objective of these camps is to expedite the issuance of Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards and Disability Certificates, which are crucial for PwDs to access a wide range of government benefits and welfare schemes.
The initiative reflects the Administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Divyangjans by removing procedural delays and bringing essential services closer to their doorstep.
These camps will offer comprehensive medical assessments, a mandatory requirement for obtaining the UDID cards and disability certificates.
In South Andaman District, the camps will begin on May 15 and 16 at the Composite Regional Centre in Brookshabad. Following this, a camp will be held at G.B. Pant Hospital on May 17, and subsequently at the District Hospital in Garacharma on May 19 and 20. The outreach will continue at PHC Tushnabad on May 21, and at CHC Bambooflat on May 22 and 23. Another session will be conducted at G.B. Pant Hospital on May 24, and the South Andaman leg will conclude with a camp at PHC Hut Bay on May 27.
The programme will then move to North and Middle Andaman District in early June. A camp will be held at CHC Rangat on June 2, followed by PHC Billiground on June 4. On June 6, the camp will be conducted at Dr. Rajendra Prasad District Hospital in Mayabunder, and then at CHC Diglipur on June 7 and 9.
In the Nicobar District, camps are scheduled to take place at Bishop John Richardson Hospital in Car Nicobar on June 14 and 15, and at PHC Campbell Bay on June 16, thereby covering key locations across the archipelago.
The Administration has urged all eligible Persons with Disabilities to make full use of this opportunity by attending the camps at their nearest available location. Medical evaluations and documentation services will be provided free of cost, and in many cases, the UDID cards and Disability Certificates may be issued on the same day. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce delays in service access and reinforce the Administration’s broader goal of inclusive development.
