In a proactive initiative aimed at empowering elderly residents with essential life-saving skills, the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Car Nicobar, organized a specialized first-aid training program for senior citizens of Lapathy Village.
The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from elderly members of the community and focused on equipping them with the knowledge and skills to manage emergency health situations both at home and within their neighbourhoods. The session was inaugurated by Ms. Sunita Kumari, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Car Nicobar, who highlighted the importance of basic healthcare awareness in enhancing the well-being and confidence of senior citizens.
Mr. Peter G., Master Trainer from the Education Department (PTPST), led the technical sessions. He provided hands-on training and live demonstrations on crucial first-aid techniques including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), wound dressing, burn treatment for various degrees, fracture support, and emergency response procedures. The interactive format ensured active participation, allowing the attendees to practice the skills being taught.
Village Captain of Small Lapathy, Ms. Jassie, addressed the gathering and appreciated ICDS Car Nicobar’s efforts for the welfare of the elderly. Village Secretary Shri Onisimus also encouraged participants to make the most of the training and serve as first responders during minor medical emergencies in their households and communities.
The initiative marks a significant step towards promoting health resilience among the island’s senior population, a press release from the CDPO, Car Nicobar, stated.
