In line with the Chief Secretary’s directive mandating quarterly mock drills across all departments of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, the Directorate of Disaster Management conducted a fire mock drill at Haddo Wharf, Sri Vijaya Puram, on June 20, 2025.
The drill was carried out in coordination with the Port Management Board, Health Department, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and Fire Services to assess preparedness and inter-departmental coordination in handling emergency situations.
The exercise began with a simulated fire incident. Following the alert, departmental teams executed safe evacuation protocols, conducted search and rescue operations, and provided first aid to simulated casualties. The communication unit promptly informed the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC-1070), District Emergency Operation Center (DEOC-S/A-1077), Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112), and other concerned departments.
Fire tenders and ambulances arrived at the site swiftly, enabling timely containment of the situation and delivery of medical assistance. The drill effectively demonstrated the importance of readiness and seamless coordination among emergency response agencies.
A debriefing session was conducted post-drill, during which observers from resource departments provided feedback, acknowledged the staff’s compliance with procedures, and suggested updates to available resources to further strengthen emergency response capabilities.
