A significant State-Level Conference focusing on Child Marriage, Child Sexual Abuse, and Suicide was held on June 21 at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Sri Vijaya Puram. The event emphasized critical legal frameworks, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Mental Health Act, underscoring the urgent need for stronger interventions.
The conference was graced by distinguished dignitaries such as Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Judge of the Supreme Court and Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA); Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dipankar Datta, Supreme Court Judge and Patron of the Andaman and Nicobar State Legal Services Authority (A&N SLSA); Hon’ble Mr. Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, Chief Justice of the High Court at Calcutta and Patron-in-Chief of A&N SLSA; and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya, Judge of the High Court at Calcutta and Executive Chairman of A&N SLSA. Senior officials from the Andaman and Nicobar Administration also participated in the deliberations.
Speakers at the conference stressed the crucial need for coordinated efforts between the judiciary, law enforcement agencies, mental health experts, and community leaders to effectively address these pressing social issues.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Rashid Alam, Registrar and Member Secretary of the A&N State Legal Services Authority.
