In a proactive move to combat substance abuse and promote a drug-free society, the North & Middle Andaman District Police organized a week-long series of awareness activities to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The campaign, which unfolded across various Police Stations in the district, featured a range of events aimed at engaging the community—particularly young people—in meaningful discussions about the dangers of drug use. Educational institutions played a central role, with students participating enthusiastically in essay and drawing competitions, creatively expressing their perspectives on drug addiction and its societal impacts.

Public rallies and awareness drives were conducted at key locations, drawing the attention of residents and passersby. In an effort to combine awareness with positive engagement, friendly football and table tennis matches were also organized. These events aimed not only to inform but to inspire youth to embrace healthier, more disciplined lifestyles.

The initiative focused on fostering a collective understanding of the physical, social, and legal consequences of drug abuse. Emphasis was placed on prevention, early intervention, and the critical role of community support in addressing the issue. The campaign saw active participation from students, educators, community leaders, and local residents, reflecting a shared commitment to a safer, healthier future.

Parallel to its awareness efforts, the District Police have also intensified their crackdown on the illegal drug trade. In the current year alone, law enforcement authorities have seized approximately 24 kilograms of methamphetamine, 10 kilograms of ganja, and six cannabis plants in various operations across the district.

Reaffirming its dedication to community policing, the North & Middle Andaman District Police pledged to continue such awareness initiatives in the future. Citizens have been urged to report any information related to criminal or illegal activities to their nearest Police Station or via helpline numbers 100, 112, and 03192-273344. Informers’ identities will be kept confidential and will be suitably rewarded.
