In a heartening step toward promoting healthy and active ageing, a special awareness-cum-skill training programme on Fundamental Yoga for senior citizens was recently organized at the Ograbraj Gram Panchayat Hall under the aegis of ICDS Ferrargunj. The initiative aimed not only to encourage physical well-being but also to foster a supportive and respectful environment for the elderly, while raising awareness about Elderline services.

Led by Ms. A. Gayatri, an expert yoga instructor from the Ayush Department, the interactive session featured demonstrations of gentle yoga asanas, pranayama (breathing exercises), and relaxation techniques tailored specifically for the elderly. The training focused on helping participants manage age-related challenges such as joint pain, hypertension, diabetes, and anxiety through easy-to-follow daily yoga routines.

Mr. Mohammed Shafique, Pradhan of Ograbraj Panchayat, graced the event as the chief guest. In his address, he applauded the initiative and emphasized the importance of wellness activities in rural and semi-urban communities. Highlighting yoga’s role in improving physical flexibility, mental clarity, and emotional well-being, he extended full support to future Elderline initiatives for wider community outreach.

A notable highlight of the event was the participation of Ms. Sushma Pandey, Project Manager of the National Helpline for Senior Citizens (Elderline 14567). She sensitized attendees about the helpline’s services, engaged in one-on-one conversations with elderly participants, and patiently addressed their concerns—instilling trust and reassurance through her compassionate interaction.

Approximately 60 senior citizens participated in the programme, supported by Mukhya Sevika Ms. Maimuna and a dedicated team of Anganwadi workers from Ograbraj, whose coordination ensured the smooth execution of the event.

An open interaction session allowed seniors to candidly share their concerns related to health, emotions, and social issues. The Elderline team offered attentive listening, guidance, and follow-up support, reinforcing a sense of security and solidarity.

Adding a joyful element to the day’s proceedings, a recreational “Passing the Ball” activity was conducted, where participants shared life memories and thoughts when the music paused. The activity brought laughter and camaraderie, deepening emotional connection among attendees.

As the programme concluded, many senior citizens expressed heartfelt gratitude for the care, respect, and companionship they received. The event stood as a shining example of community-driven compassion and care, reaffirming ICDS Ferrargunj and Elderline’s commitment to ensuring that no senior citizen feels alone and every elder lives with dignity, support, and connection.
