As part of the 76th Van Mahotsav celebrations, the Diglipur Forest Division organized a tree plantation drive at the Fish Landing Centre in Durgapur on July 1, 2025, reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation.
The event was graced by Mr. Kamleshwar Rao S., IAS, Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur, North Andaman, who attended as the chief guest. Also present was Dr. S.H.K. Murti, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Diglipur, along with Pradhans, PRI members, members of the local fishermen community, and officials and staff of the Department of Environment and Forest.
In his address, Mr. Kamleshwar Rao lauded the Department of Environment and Forest for its continued efforts in maintaining the rich greenery of the islands and for organizing such initiatives under the Van Mahotsav celebration. Dr. Murti, DFO Diglipur, highlighted the ecological significance of the islands’ unique biodiversity and urged the community to actively participate in environmental conservation.
The Assistant Conservator of Forests, Diglipur, read out the message of the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and extended a formal vote of thanks, marking a green and hopeful start to this year’s Van Mahotsav in Diglipur.
