North & Middle Andaman Police Seize Ganja in Back-to-Back Anti-Narcotics Raids

In a major blow to drug traffickers, the North & Middle Andaman District Police have carried out two successful anti-narcotics operations on consecutive days, resulting in the seizure of over 1.6 kg of illegal ganja and the arrest of two individuals.

On 14th July, during routine patrolling in Shantipur (Ward No. 02), the Billiground Police team noticed a suspicious person attempting to avoid police presence. The individual, identified as Ravi Das (40), son of Late Bhagaban Das and a resident of Shantipur, was intercepted. Upon checking the bag in his possession, the team recovered approximately 1 kg of ganja. Ravi Das was arrested on the spot, and a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 has been registered against him.

Continuing their crackdown, the next day on 15th July, acting on specific intelligence, Diglipur Police conducted a targeted raid in the Laxmipur area, leading to the recovery of around 100 grams of ganja. Further investigation and swift follow-up action led to another raid in Harinagar, Billiground, where an additional 500 grams of ganja was seized. The accused, Sowrab Das (26), son of Mr. Sudip Das and a resident of Harinagar (RV), Ward No. 05, Billiground, was apprehended. An NDPS case has also been registered against him.

These operations reflect the district police’s unwavering commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and maintaining a drug-free society. Authorities have reiterated their zero-tolerance stance against the sale and distribution of narcotics.
