Over 400 Participate in ‘North Bay Road Marathon-2.0’; Winners Felicitated with Cash Awards

The Directorate of Education and Sports, in collaboration with the Deputy Education Office, Wimberlygunj, successfully organized the ‘North Bay Road Marathon-2.0’ on 27th July 2025. The marathon was open to the general public and featured a 10 km run for men and school boys, along with a 5 km run for women and girl students of the Wimberlygunj Educational Zone. The marathon route started and ended at Chunna Bhatta (Ram Mandir), covering the scenic stretch through North Bay.

The event drew enthusiastic participation, with more than 400 runners joining the race. The Director of Education and Sports, Mr. Vikram Singh, attended the event as the chief guest, while the Assistant Commissioner of Swaraj Dweep, Mr. Sushant Padha, was present as the guest of honour. Both dignitaries awarded cash prizes to the winners in the men’s category. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vikram Singh urged the youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle through regular participation in sports and to stay away from harmful habits such as drug abuse.

Ms. Rasheeda, Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Hopetown, and Ms. Mariyam Bibi, Zilla Parishad Member, distributed cash prizes to the winners in the women’s category. Mr. Devlin Dutta, Chief Manager of Canara Bank, presented cash prizes to the winners in the boys and girls categories from the Wimberlygunj Educational Zone. Canara Bank generously sponsored all the cash awards presented during the event.

In the 10 km category open to all men, Sandeep secured the first position, followed by N Eshwaran in second place and Vishal in third. Consolation prizes in this category were awarded to Anil Ekka and Bala Raju. In the 5 km category open to all women, P Alanganal clinched first place, with Minachi coming in second and Sushma Soy securing the third spot. Consolation prizes in this category went to Nidhi Munda and Reena Lohar.

Among the boys from Wimberlygunj Educational Zone participating in the 10 km run, Ganesh Kumar emerged as the winner, followed by Anay Tete in second place and Hari Karan in third. A consolation prize was awarded to K Harshit Paul. In the 5 km category for girls from the same educational zone, Sushmita won the first prize, while Abhinaya Shree and Harshini came in second and third respectively. K Darshini received the consolation award in this group.

The marathon concluded on a high note with cheers, celebration, and a strong message emphasizing fitness, discipline, and the positive role of sports in youth development. Canara Bank sponsored the cash awards for the winners.
