In a continued effort to strengthen community policing and address local concerns, Mr. Rahul L. Nair, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District, held a Jan Sunwai (Public Hearing) at the Community Hall in Kakana Village today.

The session witnessed active participation from around 30–40 residents and was attended by the SDPO Car Nicobar, Officer-in-Charge of PS Car Nicobar, and Mr. D.N. Benedict, Headman of Kakana Village. During the interaction, villagers raised a range of civic and safety-related concerns, including matters pertaining to women and child protection.

As part of the outreach, SP Nair also conducted an awareness session on the dangers of drug abuse. He sensitized attendees about the harmful impact of narcotics on youth and the broader community, and urged residents to confidentially report any drug-related activities. He assured that swift and appropriate police action would follow credible inputs.

Highlighting the broader security framework, the Superintendent of Police also encouraged the public to promptly report the presence of any suspicious packages, bags, or containers, which could potentially be linked to criminal activities such as smuggling or drug trafficking.

In view of the region’s vulnerability to natural disasters, SP Nair also briefed villagers on evacuation protocols in the event of a tsunami or similar emergency, emphasizing the need to move to elevated or higher ground.

The Nicobar District Police reiterated their commitment to proactive community engagement and enforcement of laws, especially those safeguarding children under the POCSO Act. Citizens are urged to report any crime or suspicious activity at the nearest police station or through helpline numbers 100, 112, 03192-265223, or 9531856152. The identity of informants will be kept confidential, and credible information may be suitably rewarded. (Story Based on PR)
