The ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), Sri Vijaya Puram, hosted a successful farmer-scientist interaction and live screening of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi programme on Saturday at the T.R. Dutta Conference Hall, CIARI campus.
The event witnessed active participation from 130 farmers hailing from various villages across Sri Vijaya Puram and Ferrargunj tehsil. The programme served as a dynamic platform for exchanging ideas, addressing field-level challenges, and showcasing cutting-edge technologies developed by CIARI to support island agriculture.
Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, led the initiative alongside a team of scientists from agriculture, animal husbandry, and fisheries disciplines. During the interaction, experts provided insights into recent innovations and sustainable practices tailored to the unique agro-climatic conditions of the islands. Farmers engaged enthusiastically, raised pertinent questions, and shared their own field experiences, contributing to a vibrant and constructive dialogue.
A key highlight of the event was the live streaming of the Prime Minister’s address under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. The session not only deepened farmers’ understanding of the scheme but also empowered them to disseminate accurate information within their communities.
The event concluded with a strong reaffirmation of CIARI’s commitment to empowering the farming community through science-led initiatives and collaborative efforts aimed at ensuring a resilient and self-reliant agricultural future in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
