In a significant development aimed at improving urban infrastructure in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, on 7th August 2025, met with Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, at the Parliament House in New Delhi.

During the meeting, Mr. Ray brought to the Minister’s attention the long-pending proposal for 49 road projects in the municipal areas of the Union Territory. The projects, worth ₹23.08 crore, were submitted by the UT Administration under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) in April 2025 and have since been awaiting approval from the Ministry.

Highlighting the deteriorating condition of roads in urban municipal areas, Mr. Ray emphasized the daily inconvenience faced by residents due to the poor state of infrastructure. He urged the Union Minister to intervene for immediate sanction of the proposals to enable urgent repairs and upgradation.

Responding positively, Mr. Gadkari promptly reviewed the matter during the meeting and granted in-principle approval for the proposals. He further directed Ministry officials to initiate necessary action without delay.

Expressing gratitude, Mr. Ray thanked the Hon’ble Minister for his swift and decisive intervention. As per the MP’s recommendation, the sanctioned proposal includes development work of approximately 1 km of road in each of the 24 municipal wards, marking a crucial step towards enhancing urban infrastructure in the region.
