A State-Level Awareness Event under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was held on Monday at Tagore Government College of Education, Sri Vijaya Puram, to sensitise youth and stakeholders about the vision of a tuberculosis-free India.
The programme was graced by Ms. Richa, Secretary (Health), as the chief guest. Other dignitaries included the Director of Health Services, Director of ANIIMS, Deputy Director (Health), Joint Secretary (NTEP), Deputy Director (AYUSH), all Programme Officers from the Directorate of Health Services, scientists from ICMR, TB Champions, and Nikshay Mitras. Students of Tagore Government College of Education also participated in large numbers.
In her address, Ms. Richa emphasised the need for collective action, community participation, and youth involvement in the fight against TB. She urged the gathering to act as ambassadors of TB awareness and contribute to achieving the national goal of TB elimination.
The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address and an overview of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan by Dr. P. Lal, Joint Secretary (NTEP). A highlight of the programme was the felicitation of Nikshay Mitras, who were presented certificates and mementos in recognition of their contributions to TB patient support and awareness.
Students of ANIIMS presented a skit depicting TB symptoms, early detection, stigma reduction, and treatment adherence. A TB Champion also shared a personal recovery journey, inspiring the audience with a message of resilience and hope.
The gathering took the TB-Free India Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to eliminating the disease. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Keerthivasan, Microbiologist, IRL, appreciating the support of all dignitaries, participants, and organisers.
The event reinforced the objectives of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan while uniting health professionals, community leaders, and youth advocates to work towards a TB-free Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
