A&N Islands Set to Celebrate 79th Independence Day with Grandeur

The 79th Independence Day will be celebrated in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on August 15, 2025, in unison with the rest of the country. The main function will be held at the historic Netaji Stadium, where the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of A&N Islands and Vice Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), will hoist the National Tricolour at 9:14 a.m.

Following the flag hoisting, the Lt. Governor will inspect the Guard of Honour, present Medals and Gallantry Awards, and distribute Commendation Certificates, before addressing the gathering. The ceremony will conclude with the National Anthem.

Prior to the main function, the Lt. Governor will visit the National Memorial Cellular Jail to place a wreath at the ‘Martyr’s Column’ and hoist the National Flag at the premises.

A full dress rehearsal was conducted at Netaji Stadium on August 13, 2025, ahead of the celebrations. In preparation for the occasion, prominent landmarks, historical monuments, and government buildings have been refurbished, while elaborate traffic arrangements and diversions have been implemented to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
