A Jansunwai (public grievance redressal) meeting was convened on Saturday at the Pokkadera Panchayat Hall under the chairmanship of Ms. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, Superintendent of Police (D), North & Middle Andaman. She was accompanied by Mr. Ankesh Yadav, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur, and the SHO of PS Mayabunder.
The meeting drew active participation from over 60 attendees, including Pradhans, Up-Pradhans, PRI members, and local residents. During the interaction, participants raised a wide range of issues, such as drug abuse, drunken driving, poor road conditions, demand for more and extended trips of STS buses, stray cattle menace, need for construction of speed breakers, establishment of a traffic park, counselling facilities for drug addicts, and proper parking arrangements. They also stressed the importance of organizing more awareness programmes in schools on drug abuse, alcohol addiction, and traffic rules.
Responding to the concerns, SP (D) N&MA assured the gathering that necessary steps would be taken to address the grievances in coordination with the concerned departments. She also conducted an awareness session on drug abuse and traffic discipline, underscoring that building a drug-free and safe society requires the collective responsibility of all citizens, not just the Police. She appealed for public cooperation in curbing illegal activities and strengthening community safety.
The Police have urged the general public to share any credible information regarding crimes or illegal activities with their nearest Police Station or through helpline numbers 100, 112, and 03192-273344. The identity of informers will be kept confidential, and they will be suitably rewarded.
