Acting on a credible tip-off, the Police Station Mayabunder successfully intercepted an attempt to transport illegal wildlife meat on 17 August. A team comprising Insp. Abdul Sajid (SHO PS Mayabunder), Insp. Gracefield, and PCs S.N. Pathak, Aurangzeb Ahmed, and M. Samsudeen conducted a raid on an STS bus traveling from Chainpur to Tugapur.

During the operation, the team apprehended 40-year-old fisherman Babu Sindhav Halder of Chainpur, who was found carrying approximately 9 kg of wild boar meat packed in polythene packets. When questioned, Halder admitted that the meat was from a wild boar but failed to provide any valid permit or explanation for possessing it.

The accused was detained under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Both the seized meat and Halder were handed over to the Forest Department for further legal action.

The North & Middle Andaman Police emphasized that this successful interception underscores their commitment to curbing poaching and protecting the fragile wildlife ecosystem of the islands.

Authorities have urged the public to report any information regarding crimes or illegal activities to the nearest police station or via phone at 100, 112, or 03192-273344. Informers’ identities will be kept confidential, and credible tips may be suitably rewarded.
