In a bid to promote scientific and sustainable farming practices, the Union Territory Agriculture Technology Management Agency (UTATMA), in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, organized a series of programmes and campaigns across the Islands recently.
As part of the initiative, a demonstration on “Intercropping with Spices in Existing Arecanut/Coconut Plantation” was held at Gandhinagar village, Diglipur block, in the field of Mr. Gour Ch. Das. The programme saw active participation from Agriculture Department officials, ATMA staff, Farmers’ Friends, and local farmers.
On the same day, the first session of a two-day training programme on “Hygienic Handling of Fish during Fishing & Post-Harvest Techniques” was conducted at Vishnupur village, Rangat, in the field of Sarpanch Mr. Samiran Mondal. Jointly organized with the Department of Fisheries, the training witnessed the presence of officials from Fisheries, Agriculture, and AH&VS Departments, along with ATMA functionaries and Farmers’ Friends. The session focused on sensitizing farmers about sustainable practices, Government schemes, and modern techniques relevant to the Kharif season.
Additionally, a Kharif Campaign was organized at R.K. Pur village, Little Andaman, in the field of Mr. Roopchand Biswas, further strengthening outreach efforts to promote better agricultural practices among farmers.
