The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] organised a protest march to Raj Nivas on Friday afternoon, raising concerns over the state of power, health, roads, and shipping services in the islands.

The march began from the Gandhi statue at Mohanpura and was stopped near the Raj Nivas at CAT junction, where a memorandum addressed to the Lt. Governor was submitted. A large number of party workers and supporters took part in the protest.

At the concluding point, CPI(M) leaders addressed the participants. Party Secretary D. Ayyappan alleged that the central government was responsible for the prevailing power shortage, deteriorating road conditions including the NH4, shortcomings in healthcare facilities, and difficulties in the shipping sector. He further stated that promises made during elections had not materialised.

Other speakers included State Secretariat Member D. Laxman Rao, Port Blair City Area Committee Secretary P. Sathyapal, Area Committee Member N.K.P. Nair, and senior leader Pronob Banerjee. The march was led by D. Ayyappan along with State Secretariat Member Dr. Gouranga Majhi and SOC Member S.P. Kalairajan.

Similar demonstrations were also held in North and Middle Andaman. In Diglipur, the CPI(M) North Andaman Area Committee organised a march from the party office to the Mini Civil Station. A delegation consisting of Dilip Karmakar, Sunil Bepari, A.V.A. Samad and Barun Biswas submitted a memorandum to the Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur.

At Rangat, a delegation of CPI(M) leaders comprising Projit Kumar Sarkar, P.K. Khalid and S.R. Mridha submitted a memorandum to the Assistant Commissioner, Rangat, raising the same set of issues.
