The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, will organize the National Lok Adalat on September 13 at multiple locations across the Islands. The sittings will be conducted at the District Court Complex in Port Blair, the Sub-Divisional Court Complex at Mayabunder, and the Circuit Courts at Diglipur and Campbell Bay.
The Lok Adalat will take up compoundable cases pending before different courts as well as disputes at the pre-litigation stage. Such disputes will be considered for disposal if both parties agree to settle the matter amicably.
Among the categories of disputes to be taken up are cheque bounce cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, money recovery cases, labour disputes, electricity and water bill disputes (excluding non-compoundable matters), maintenance cases, civil disputes and matters arising under the Consumer Protection Act.
The DLSA has urged members of the public with eligible disputes, whether at the pre-litigation or post-litigation stage, to submit their matters in writing to the Secretary, DLSA, Port Blair by September 4. This will enable the cases to be processed and listed for hearing before the National Lok Adalat scheduled for September 13.
